Community Health Nursing In Oman

Community health nursing is one of the nursing specialties that have always been valued for its role in providing care in a variety of practice settings including homes, schools, work places or other community institutions [1]. Community health nurses (CHNs) provide care to individuals, families and communities regardless of their age, gender, health or socioeconomic status. They provide their services in order to promote health; prevent diseases and restore health [2]. Community health nursing is a populationfocused practice that aims to improve the health of the people. It is grounded in the population health status taking into consideration broad determinants of health and emphasizing all levels of prevention with a preference for primary prevention [2]. As the health care systems are changing, more emphasis is placed on prevention rather than cure. Thus, the focus is moving towards community based interventions [3].
